9 Words for Healthy Teams
I was blessed to be part of a high school football team meeting today that was a time of reconciliation. It was needed due to the fact that during a very lopsided loss on Friday night, several players responded with finger pointing and criticism towards their teammates. Several boys stood in front of their varsity teammates and uttered the words that Fonzie from Happy Days just could not seem to get out “I am sorry.”
I don’t remember those words being spoken in my home growing up; I certainly don’t recall uttering them. So I have had to learn as an adult and it has been difficult at times. It takes practice, but here are 9 words that are key to healthy relationships:
I was wrong.
I am sorry.
Please forgive me.
No justification or excuses. Not I am sorry if you took it the wrong way (your problem). Will you show me grace and forgive me? I hope so, because next time, it likely will be you who needs to share these 9 words. Let’s show grace to one another.
Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.~ Colossians 3:1
