Sponge or Mirror

God is not interested in receiving secondhand glory from our activity. ~ Henry Blackaby

As we compete and live, we have a choice of being a mirror that reflects glory to God or a sponge that absorbs the glory for self.  God does not want secondhand, passed-down, hand-me-down glory.  He only accepts firsthand glory. We need to compete and live for His glory.

The temptation for competitors and Christians is to quickly give the Lord glory only after enjoying it for themselves first.  But God deserves firsthand glory.  Giving credit and glory are two different things.  Credit is done with the mouth.  Glory is done with the heart.  Glory is about honoring the Master with our best and worshipping Him with a pure heart.  It is about motive.  I need to purpose in my heart to bring glory to Christ Jesus.

If you could make the headline of the sports page, what would you want it to read?  Would it be all about your success or God's glory?  If you get it right, here is a promise "Those who honor me, I will honor." (1 Samuel 2:30).
